This Week Jeanne Clark Scarmon, President of Sierra Foothills Village
Jeanne Clark Scarmon is the President of Sierra Foothills Village, now in formation in Nevada County. The non-profit’s mission is to help members remain safely and comfortably in their homes and community as they age by connecting people to people and to the services they need. The Sierra Foothills Village is part of a 15-year-old nationwide movement that is helping people remain safely and comfortably in their homes and communities as they age. Often, all that is required is occasional assistance with transportation, home chores, technical advice, grocery shopping or other tasks.
“Virtual villages offer advantages similar to life insurance, which is bought before it is needed…” New York Times, November 2014
Jeanne built on her background in Writing (BA), Counseling Psychology (MS) and teaching to create a 40-year career focused on environmental communications and advocacy. She has authored a half-dozen books about nature and conservation, produced videos, served as editor of magazines and newsletters and directed numerous public relations, volunteer, education and grant programs. Jeanne volunteers for her local Firewise Committee, is a river monitor for SYRCL and is active in AAUW. She has lived in Nevada City since 2010.
Cash register check out for 2018 Nevada County Fair Demonstration
immediately after this week's lunch meeting!!!
Big news for this year, we will be accepting credit and debit cards on our new iPad based touch-screen Square system. For the cashiers among us, the new system should be much easier to use and less susceptible to jams, etc. Please plan to stay for a few minutes after our lunch meeting for a demonstration of our new Square Cash & Credit Card checkout system!
Tom is checking out our new Square system...Apple pay or credit card? Both will work! Cash too!
The fair booth committee will meet after every weekly meeting to discuss progress on the booth and it's procedures.
Join us this Saturday, July 28 from 8:30AM till noon for our fair booth clean up work day. Please get in touch with Walt for more details. We will be cleaning windows, floors, counter tops, pots and pans, and the outside area. Always a fun time working together.

We also need another shift captain for first half of Saturday and setup cooks for Friday and Sunday. Click Fair Booth Schedule to view current openings.

We ask you to be reponsible for finding a replacement in the event you can not make your shift. THANK YOU for all you do in service for Rotary, our Club and our Community!
Next Week: Annual Pre-Fair Picnic On Treat Street!
Please sign up with Walt or Robin (or reply to this email) so we have an idea as to how many to expect and what type dish you are bringing. Bring a salad/vegie, dessert or main course dish to share. We will NOT be serviing Pulled Pork This year so we do need main course dishes. Also note this is a BYOB event.
We will continue our tradition of table decorations. This year's Fair theme is Bushels of Fun! and that is exactly what we are expecting for our picnic and for Fair week!!!
The Children's Festival - Friday July 27
A big thank you to Nancy Kemp for her year round planning efforts and leadership for this very special Nevada City Renaissance Festival for so many years! And to Sandy Stickel and Gayle Denney who are again hosting craft tables for the children. Volunteering at the Children's Festival is always lots of fun because the children with their parents and grandparents have such a fabulous time. Check with Sandy and Gayle to volunteer in supporting with nature sun prints or renaissance block prints.
