Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Welcome to our latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.
This Week : Lynn Skrudrud & Halli Ellis-Edwards, from NEO
About NEO (New Events and Opportunities):
NEO was founded in 2008 to create New Events and Opportunities for youth in Nevada County. NEO strives to empower youth to make positive lifestyle choices by creating positive change within the community. In March 2015, NEO opened doors to a Youth Center in Grass Valley, where they host after school drop-in hours and events for youth and young adults. NEO also continues to host outreach on numerous school campuses though lunch time events and host offsite events.
Lynn Skrukrud – Co-Founder & Director of Operations
Lynn grew up in Nevada County. While in high school she coordinated drug prevention efforts for Nevada Union and was appointed to the statewide youth board for tobacco prevention. When she was 19, Lynn realized that young people in Nevada County needed more than just education to help them make healthy lifestyle choices, so she teamed up with Halli Ellis to create NEO. In 2012, she graduated from Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village, Nevada with a Bachelor’s Degree in Management Studies and Entrepreneurship.
Halli Ellis-Edwards – Co-Founder & Director of Programming
Halli has a passion for youth and has worked in various youth programs for the last 10 years, receiving extensive training in positive youth development. Her experience ranges from Site Supervisor of the Lyman Gilmore After School Program, GREAT Summer Youth Academy Counselor, teen center facilitator and basketball coach for the Santa Cruz Boys and Girls Club. In 2013, Halli received her Bachelor of Arts degree from UC Santa Cruz with a major in Sociology.
Last Week : Los Barriles Update From John Hensley & Dave Bunje
Since Carolyn Feuille was unable to attend this meeting, John Hensley was assisted by Dave Bunje in presenting a very informative slideshow regarding the historic efforts at the school in Los Barillas. Slides included pictures of before and after the cleaning and painting of classrooms, as well as training sessions given to the locals on how to use water filtering kits.
Additionally we obtained this hotel information from Chris Geyer, who lives in the area; The Hotel Buena Vista is the just south of Los Barriles and is on the ocean. It is an older hotel and the special Rotary price is $50 per night (includes breakfast). Send reservation requests directly to Felipe Valdez (Rotarian) at firstname.lastname@example.org Members from Fair Oaks Rotary are staying there. Also, the Los Barriles Hotel is $80 USD for 2 and $60 USD for 1 person. You can email them at email@example.com . For further information, you may contact Chris Geyer at Cgeyer@eoni.com .
John also mentioned that there are airfares available for between 350 $450, if you know how to hunt for them. He recommended a website called www.skyscanner.com
