FEB. 11: CLUB MUSIC CONTEST It's always an inspriation to witness the quality of talent that high schoolers display as they compete for the privelege of ascending to Rotary competitions at the Area level (April 10) and District Confernce (May 14). As the only area club with a piano in their dining room, we usually receive top-notch performers. Hilary Hodge is coordinating.
ROTARY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE 2, FEB. 13, 8:30-3:30, 433 Broad St. This is a wonderful overview of how Rotary works and why it is such an inspiring and effective movement in the community and the world. Each Rotarian is encouraged to partake in the Institute, which are only offerd a couple of times each year. This one is in OUR TOWN! Register on the District website. THE AUTHOR BEHIND "THE REVENANT" MOVIE INTERVIEWED IN PEOPLE, TO SPEAK TO CLUB FEB 18. Bruce Bradley is a talented writer, vintner, and artist, whose book, Hugh Glass, was used as background for the new movie, The Revenant. Bruce was interviewed recently by People magazine for its article on the movie. We have been able to arrange for Bruce to speak to the club on Feb. 18 about Hugh Glass, writing history, and informing a movie. NEW ROTARIAN TALKS, CLUB FOUNDATION, SERVICE PLANS are the focus of the meeting on Feb. 25. We'll get to know Karrie Barrett and Joe Bundy, be updated about the Club Foundation, and affirm the "Service Above Self" projects club members are undertaking. OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE through the Rotary Club of Nevada CityMove books to the new Hisotry Center from Nevada City City Hall, Sunday. Feb. 21, starting at 11 am at the City Hall. This will only take an hour or two, but include an inside look at City Hall and some great reccorded history. Confirm your particpation with Robin Milam.

Painting a school dormitory near Los Barriles, Baja, Mexico, March 10-15, 2016. Continuing the work started last year, a team of NC Rotarians will go to southern Baja next March for an intense weekend of painting and sprucing-up, and a couple of days of warm fellowship with members of our sister club in Los Barriles. Great hotel rates have been arranged with the Rotarian owner of Spa Buena Vista, on the ocean, for $50/night. Hotel Los Barriles will be about $75/night. See Dave Bunje for more info. LAST WEEKMICHAEL YOUNG AND HILARY HODGE shared about their vocation and the road they took to arrive in Nevada City in their current occupations. VISIONING RETREAT HELPS CHART THE COURSE Being realistic about our size of club and our ability to staff service projects and fundraisers, Visioning Retreat helped articulate the focus of the club, and also how to take it a step at a time. The brainstorming results are in the member section of the website; the President is coordinating the filling in of the lists of projects that are being undertaken and those that are desired but as yet unstaffed. The lists were emailed to members last week. All members are encouraged to contribute to these lists as we embrace the doable-and-exciting course for the next year. OTHER ROTARY NEWSGRASS VALLEY ROTARY'S CASINO NIGHT IS THIS SATRUDAY, FEB. 6, 6:30 to 10 pm at the Foothill Event Center. This is a key fundraising event for them, and fellow Rotarians are most welcome. RI PRESIDENT RAVINDRAN AND POPE FRANCIS INVITE YOU TO MASS IN ROME ON APRIL 30. 8,000 seats are reserved for Rotarians, friends and family; first come, first served. In addition, local Rotarians will host special celebratory dinners and a service project. For more inforamtion vist the Jubilee of Rotarians website. EXCHANGE STUDENTS AND INTERACT STUDENTS TO DISTRICT CONFERENCE.
