Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Enjoy a Happy New Year! Dark this week!
2017 is almost in the rear-view mirror and 2018 is fast approaching. We are DARK this coming Thursday (December 28th) to give everyone a chance to catch their breath after the busy holiday comings and goings. I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year. I've never been one to make New Year resolutions. Instead I like to set goals and this year I plan to continue toward my goal of having fun in Rotary while making a difference. In the year ahead I am eager to continue to serve side-by-side with all of you as we are "Rotarians - Making a Difference."
We have a lot to be proud of that we accomplished in 2017 and a lot to look forward to in 2018; a tree giveaway, Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI), Music and Speech contests, a clean water project as we head to Los Barriles, beautiful daffodils blooming in our "park-in-progress", Assembly and, of course, Conference to name just a few. It looks to me like we'll have plenty of opportunities to have fun while Making a Difference. And we look forward to inducting our newest members Susie Monary-Wilson and John Wilson early in the coming year.
See you next year!
Last week, a small but joyful group closed the year with Holiday Cheer! Thank you Cathy and her elves - Stacy Drake, Karen Young, Barbara Jensen, Coral Morin, Teresa Rodrigues, and Candance Hansen - for the delightfully delicious gingerbread Rotarians!
SAVE THE DATE - January 13, 2018
Rotary International President Ian Riseley set a goal of planting a tree for every Rotarian. That's a lot of trees! To meet the goal for our local clubs, the Area 4 Rotary Clubs are joining together in a "tree giveaway" on January 13, 2018. We will give 400 Ponderosa Pine trees away in a drive-through event at The Union. Each of the five clubs need to provide 3 volunteers to help with traffic control, greeting, tree handling and more. Our own Ron Knaus is helping prepare a brochure about the care and handling of trees so we have the best chance of a high survival rate. Watch this space for more information in the coming weeks.
SAVE THE DATE - Rotary Leadership Institute, January 20, 2018

Treats and Hosts for Girls Who Code
Nancy Kemp is taking over coordination of hosts and refreshments and now has the signup form. This year's program continues through the Spring and we have openings for you if you are looking to treat yourself by treating the girls to refreshments one or more times this winter and spring. It is a fabulous way for you to be personally involved supporting the program. The girls certainly appreciate the snacks ~ it is good to offer something sweet, something salty, including something filling. Old reliables include chips, granola bars, juice drinks, cupcakes, pretzels, brownies, bagels, etc. If you have not signed up for a slot, please contact Nancy. Many thanks to those who volunteer to bring snacks!
GWC club meets in the library at Seven Hills Middle School, starting at 3:30 pm on Tuesdays. When bringing snacks, please arrive by 4:15 for 4:30 serving. Snacks are served in the covered patio just outside the library, while the weather stays fair, and in the Teacher’s Lounge when the weather turns foul. Seven Hills Middle School is at 700 Hoover Lane, opposite SPD Market off the far end of Brock Rd. From the main parking lot, go through the open hallway past the central office. The library and patio are just outside the hallway.
