Rotario - August 17, 2017

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

The sun has come out in Spain and we have met Cathy's original $1,500 donation goal so now the sky is the limit!  Our next milestone is to double or triple her reported goal. To anyone who has not donated, even a few dollars puts you on the donor list supporting Cathy and it also means you receive automatic updates with pictures on Cathy's progress. Donate and/or follow Cathy's End Polio Now trek with updates every few days at Make History Today ~ End Polio Once and For All!

This Week: Merchant Social with Faith Agar ~ Community Legal

Faith AgarCommunity Legal provides legal research and drafting, advocacy, and legal problem-solving across a range of practice areas including housing, legal basics,  disability rights, clearing your record, and mediation. Community Legal creates a new model for public interest legal service and responds to an increasingly alienating legal system that is out of reach for most people.

Faith Agar is a Nevada City native. Her grandparents moved to Nevada City in 1972 and were active members of the community. She attended Seven Hills & Nevada Union High School and is now the parent two Seven Hills Raiders and one Nevada Union Miner. She has recently re-entered the workforce after taking several years off to raise children.  With a diverse employment background she brings a wide array of applicable skills to Community Legal as the Office Manager and Pro-Bono Attorney Coordinator. Being a Nevada City native also drives her to make a passionate impact on the work Community Legal does. Volunteerism has always been an important aspect of her life. Faith has volunteered for many local organizations including Minor’s Clinic, SYRCL, Nevada Theater, North Columbia Schoolhouse, Center for the Arts, numerous Parent/Teacher Clubs and served on Site Council for Williams Ranch Elementary.

Last Week at the Fair

We made it! Another full Fair Week is now history.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who worked shoulder to shoulder to have it be fun and fulfilling inspite of the long hours. Our work at the Nevada County Fair is all about community supporting our community - that is what makes it special and worthwhile. A big thank you everyone.

It was obvious to all that Walt Stickel and Carla Burke set the bar. On top of all the pre-Fair prep, they were in every morning to handle our cash reports and be sure the booth was ready for the day on top of working full shifts (sometimes multiple) almost everyday plus pulling Sandy and other friends into to fill the gaps. Paul Boch drove over for shifts four days while Nancy Kemp, Tom Ryan, Dave Bunje, Ken Ching and Robin Milam (not counting the additional spouse shifts) all worked 3 shifts. John Hensley, Dennis Geare, John Woodford, Dan Becker, Carla, Walt and Robin all served one or more days as shift captain.

Sales this year were down a couple thousand dollars with a slow start Wednesday - Friday.  Saturday and Sunday were strong days on par with last year.   With pending returns and refunds, it may take a couple weeks for final profit numbers. Cool weathers don't mean bigger crowds either - overall this was one of our cooler Fair weeks!  Plus we collected $429 in our boots for Polio!
