Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Welcome to our latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.
This Week : Trip Report from Baja Work Project Team
Our stalwart team returned on last Tuesday after six busy days at Los Barillas working on the cleaning and painting of school dormitories. Many thanks go out to our team led by John Hensley, along with Cathy Wilcox Barnes, Carolyn Feuille, Paul Boch, and the happy couple of Christine and Bill Newsom. Of course, this never would have been such a productive project without the expert local leadership provided by our southern Rotary partner, Chris Geyer. We look forward to their slideshow and full report at our meeting this Thursday, April 6.
Earlier This Week Area Speech Contest
This year's Area Speech Contest was held at the first Methodist Church in Grass Valley. And we had five of our club members also in attendance including Pres. Walt, Robin, Dennis Geare, Tom Ryan, and Dave Bunje, who also acted as one of the judges. Each contestant gave a heartfelt speech about what Rotary means to them in the own personal experiences. After the scores were tallied, our own entry, Aubrianna, was declared the winner and will move on to the District Speech Contest which will be held during the District Conference in May, at the Atlantis Hotel. .Aubrianna is the person at the far right in this group picture.
Last Week - District Leadership Assembly in Reno
Club Leadership Assembly was held at the Atlantis Casino Hotel in Reno on Saturday, April 1. The entire event was orchestrated by our own Club Secretary, Robin Milam. There were some very humorous and informative role-playing skits in the morning session which demonstrated both the wrong way AND the right way to greet visitors as well as possibly recruit them as future Rotarians. Once again, the afternoon sessions provided individual tutorials on many Rotary-related topics including sessions for new presidents, secretaries and treasurers, new types of fundraising techniques, youth programs including a presentation by Dave Bunje on Girls Who Code, a Technology Made Simple session led by assistant governor Dennis Geare, and many other relevant topics. Our club was represented by Pres. Walt, Robin as Club Leadership Assembly Chair, Dennis Geare, Dave Bunje, President-elect Cathy Wilcox Barnes, Carolyn Feuille, and future Membership Chair Stacy Drake. I'm sure you can find all of us in the attached photo of the Area 4 attendees.
