Last week, Larry Undercoffer hosted Michael Ben Hortiz, who updated us regarding the Maidu Indian Project as our program for the Club meeting. Thanks, Larry!
The big news for our Club comes from the District Conference held in Reno on May 21st to 23rd. We were big winners! We came away with 9 plaques to add to our Club banner, two certificates, a ribbon, and four nominations (i.e., honorable mentions)! Congratulations to everyone in the Club who contributed to our success. We will present the awards at this Thursday’s Club meeting, so please make an effort to turn out and show your appreciation to those who made the awards possible. Here’s what we hauled in:
Nominations (4): Best Bulletin; Avenue of Service Award for Community Service; Foundation Giving Total; Vocational Service Project of the Year.
Wins (9 plaques and two certificates): Best Gain in Membership; Avenue of Service Awards for Club, International and Vocation Service; Foundation Giving Annual; International Service Project of the Year (the Batwa water, sanitation and dairy goat project); Club Service Project of the Year (membership recruitment and retention effort); Rotarians at Work Day Project of the Year (historic cemeteries clean-up); Presidential Citation (only 25 of 53 Clubs got this in 2010 due to difficulties meeting the net-plus-1 membership goal); Club of Excellence (among all medium sized Clubs in District 5190); and Area President of the Year (among all 6 Club Presidents in Western Nevada County).
Other wins (2) are an “Outstanding” for our Club Display in the Hall of Friendship and a win for Area 4 for the Best Hospitality Suite (out of 12 Areas) with special kudos to Austin Farrar and Janeille Litton (of the Nevada County South club) for their hard work to put the suite, décor, food, and libations together.
Whew! What a haul! We had a great year and Thursday will be our chance to celebrate and to honor those whose contributions are what made it all happen. Be there!
We also have an interesting program coming up on Thursday. Walt Stickel is hosting Bill Netherby of the County’s Search & Rescue Squad, who will update us on the important work of this volunteer organization that makes our beautiful open lands that much safer for those of us who use them. See you Thursday!
