Last week, Dr. Don Williams hosted our new County Public Health Officer Dr. Karen Milman for our lunch program. Dr. Milman presented an interesting overview of the many programs her department oversees to ensure the public health of our community. Thanks, Don! We also had an especially good "shares and recognition" discussion with many good things coming up for our members. Thanks for all who chipped in!
Note that our May 6th meeting will be MOVED to the Nevada City Elks Lodge for a noon lunch to welcome the inbound Group Study Exchange (GSE) team from India. It is an interesting group. This is always a great program and an opportunity to network with Rotarians from all five Area 4 Clubs, as well as the Rotaractors. Join us!
The annual District Conference is coming – Reno, May 21-23. This is a District 5190-wide, end-of-the-year celebration at the Grand Sierra Resort with golf, bowling, poker, and clay-shooting (I am not sure I trust our group with firearms!). You can register at the conference or on-line at www.regonline.com/builder/site/Default.aspx?eventid=807265. Sponsorship opportunities are listed on the District website, too. The Club will provide a $50 subsidy if you attend for at least an over-night stay. Treasurer Ellen Davis has the details. Friday night’s dinner features sitting Rotary International President John Kenney. You can attend that dinner for $45 without registering for the conference if you and we can arrange a carpool to get you up there in back. Details are on the District website at the URL listed above. Come help us celebrate a successful Rotary year!
We’ll be back at the National Hotel for two interesting meetings to hear the candidates in contested County races on the June 2nd ballot – May 13th brings us Greg Diaz and Barry Pruett who are running for Clerk-Recorder, and May 20th brings us Sue Horne and Rolf Kleinhans who are vying for the Assessor’s post. These will be most interesting programs and will give you vital information to be an informed voter, so be there or be square!
A combination of business and pleasure will have me missing these meetings, but you will be in good hands with PE Eleanor Kenitzer, PEN Carolyn Inglis, and Club Service Chair Dixie Redfearn.

• The Group Study Exchange (GSE) Team from India will be in our area May 5-7. During this time, they will be experiencing vocational tours specific to their individual careers, as well as touring some of our historical sites and experiencing our culture. To welcome them to the area and to learn more about the team members' cultures, vocations, and communities, our club will be hosting a luncheon on Thursday, May 6 at the Nevada City Elks Lodge (instead of our regular meeting at the National Hotel).
• The District Conference is the culmination of what 2,700 Rotarians in 53 clubs within our district can accomplish. And this Rotary year, we will all come together on May 21-23 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno to discuss, celebrate, and plan for the future! Early Bird registration and details about the Conference are available at www.rotarydistrict5190.org/districtconferencehome.asp.
• And yes, the editor "cheated" by reusing last week's pictures! |
