Last week’s meeting was our first back at the National Hotel after a two-week hiatus. PE Eleanor Kenitzer delivered an excellent program more directly than usual last week – she did her own craft talk and then presented a short and inspiring video on Shelter Box, the Rotary-affiliated charity that provides humanitarian relief supplies after disasters. Our Club donated $1,000 to cover a box for Haiti and we may be able to fund a second.

This week’s program is Jesse Locks of the Economic Resource Council will be discussing the New Business Network for young professionals and entrepreneurs developed by the ERC. They’re doing good work keeping our young go-getters in our community and building our business climate. Should be an interesting program!

Thanks to those who attended the District Assembly last weekend: PE Eleanor Kenitzer, Secretary David Kenitzer, Community Service Chair Dixie Redfearn, Membership Co-Chairs Walt Stickel and Austin Farrar, Foundation Chair Bob Buhlis, John Hazelwood and pP Nancy Kemp. We had fun at Friday’s reception and over a good meal to get and got some excellent training and planning for next year on Sunday. The Atlantis Resort and Casino has been recently remodeled and provided a comfortable venue for the event.

If you are interested in attending the District Conference (a District-wide, end-of-the-year celebration), you can register as late as the day of the conference (May 21-23 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno), but the price goes up again on May 4th. Register on line at www.regonline.com/builder/site/Default.aspx?eventid=807265. Sponsorship opportunities are detailed there, too. If you register for at least an over-night stay, the Club will provide a $50 subsidy. Talk to Treasurer Ellen Davis for the details. We will provide as many subsidies as we raise funds for on a first-come-first-served basis. If we raise more than needed via our weekly raffles from now through May, we will donate the balance to the District to cover its conference costs. Join in the fun! Friday night’s dinner features sitting RI President John Kenny, quite an honor for our District and that should be an especially interesting program.

I will miss Thursday’s meeting due to a business commitment, but you’ll be in good hands with PE Eleanor. Don’t miss the meeting!
