Thank you! To all who contributed to our successful, 13th Annual Radio Auction, thank you, thank you, thank you! To those who solicited donations, provided photos and descriptions, did data entry, provided the food, arranged for phone lines and furniture, took phone calls, tallied bids, made calls back, did credit card or data entry, packaging, or mailing, thank you! We cleared about $16k as of Auction Day and that should grow to about $18k when the dust settles. While this is shy of our budget goal of $25k, it is comparable to what we did last year and, given the economic climate, that’s pretty good indeed.

It is always risky to name names when thanking the many people who contributed to the Radio Auction, but there are some folks who really went above and beyond the call of duty. So, my personal gratitude goes to auction Co-Chairs Nancy Kemp and Gary Gustafson and to Committee membersCarolyn Inglis, Robin Milam, Pete Brost, Dave Kenitzer, Gayle Denney, and Derek Poppell.

We have had a successful year with membership recruitment. The approval of new member Dennis Geare (who we will formally induct on April 8th) and the return of Sandra Brown bring us to eight additional members for the year. There’s still time to reach our goal of 10 if you have someone you would like to invite to lunch. Thanks to all who helped!

We had fun with the Speech Contest last week and are grateful to Donna Smith for putting that together. Don’t forget that our Club meeting on March 25th was moved to the Radio Auction and that our meeting on April 1st is moved to the Area Speech Contest, at noon on Wednesday, March 31st at the Nevada City Elks Club Lodge on Highway 49 north of Town.

If you are interested in attending the District Conference (a big party to celebrate a year of Rotary successes and a heckofa good time), the cut-off for the early bird registration is March 31st. You can register as late as the day of the conference, but the price goes up March 31st and again May 4th. Register on line at www.regonline.com/builder/site/Default.aspx?eventid=807265. Sponsorship opportunities are detailed there, too. If you provide Ellen Davis with proof that you have registered for at least an over-night stay, the Club will provide a $50 subsidy. We will provide as many subsidies as we raise funds for on a first-come-first-served basis. If we raise more than needed via our weekly raffles from now through May, we will donate the balance to the District to cover its conference costs. Join in the fun!

See you at the Speech Contest on the 31st!

• This year's District Assembly promises to be a workshop to help clubs run better. The Assembly is scheduled for Saturday, April 10th at Atlantis Casino in Reno. New members, board members, future leaders, and anyone else interested in Rotary's "behind the scenes" are encouraged to attend. Contact PE Eleanor Kenitzer if you're interested in attending. For more info, visit www.rotarydistrict5190.org/districtassemblyhome.asp.
• The District Conference is the culmination of what 2,700 Rotarians in 53 clubs within our district can accomplish. And this Rotary year, we will all come together on May 21-23 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno to discuss, celebrate, and plan for the future! Early Bird registration and details about the Conference are available at www.rotarydistrict5190.org/districtconferencehome.asp.
• Nevada County Rotaract is holding their annual Champagne Brunch on Sunday, May 2nd at 11 a.m. in the Union Street Building (the Old Sole Mates retail space at 151 Mill St, Grass Valley). Mix and mingle as you enjoy mimosas, all of your brunch favorites, live music and various champagne cocktails at the Create-Your-Own-Champagne-Cocktail bar. Includes free-flowing champagne and exciting raffle prizes. Tickets are $35 per person. For more information contact Sandra Barrington at sbarrington@snmhf.com or call 530-575-1456.
• To promote The Rotary Foundation giving, Nevada City Rotary Club members can earn 100 points for every $100 (maximum 500 points) contributed towards their Paul Harris Fellowship -- retroactive to July 1st and through March 31st! That's right, if you have already contributed during this Rotary year or plan to contibute, you can get a PHF for $500! See pP Bob Buhlis or pP Nancy Kemp for details. Our goal is for our club to have Every Rotarian Every Year status (at least $100 for each member) and increase our Paul Harris Fellows by 50%. Checks (or your coin boxes) may be given to Bob, Nancy or pP Ellen Davis at any meeting. How lucky we are to have our Paul Harris Foundation working to improve world conditions? Let's all work towards 100% participation!
