Our program last week brought us Jeff Pylman, Agricultural Commissioner for the County of Nevada. Jeff is also the County Sealer of weights and measures and you may have seen his name on little stickers on gas pumps and grocery scales. His team also provides the mosquito control function for our County. An interesting program brought to us by his processor, Club member Paul Boch. Thanks, Paul! We also welcomed Thomas A Coleman back to work, on his second day after being out with health issues. Good to see you back Tom!
We have a new member to propose – number 7 of our goal of 10 for the year. Club Service Chair Dixie Redfearn is sponsoring Dennis Geare. Dennis is retired from marketing for Random House Books and is starting a new career in real estate. His proposed classification is "Real Estate". If you have any questions or concerns about Dennis as a prospective member, please let me know.
Treasurer / pP Ellen Davis announced a new fundraising effort to raise money to fund a $50 per member subsidy of the cost of attending the District Conference in Reno at the Grand Sierra Resort, May 21-23. We will be raffling off items donated by Club members at each meeting. pP John Hensley was the lucky winner of two bottles of Nevada City red wine, but he donated then back to the club to be raffled anew. I have donated a good bottle of Champagne and Vocation Services Chair Nicole Dillard has promised something interesting from her store. If you have something to donate, let Ellen or Nicole know. Buy tickets!
If you are interested in attending the Conference (a big party to celebrate a year of Rotary successes and a heckofa good time), the cut-off for the Early Bird Registration is March 31st. You can register as late as the day of the conference, but the price goes up March 31st and again May 4th. Register on line at the District Website. . Sponsorship opportunities are detailed there, too. If you provide Ellen Davis with proof that you have registered for at least an over-night stay, she will provide you a $50 subsidy. We will provide as many subsidies as we raise funds for on a first-come-first-served basis. If we raise more than needed, we will donate the balance to the District to cover its conference costs. Join in the fun!
We have a new location for the Radio Auction! It is this Saturday from 8am – 3pm (9am to 2pm on the air, but we have set up and cleanup to staff, too) and will be at the Citizens Bank Building on Railroad Avenue (at Sacramento Street). We will still use the Stonehouse for the walk-in portion of the event and the Art Show, but the work of the Auction will be at the bank. The Dry-Run Friday at 5:30 pm before will also be at the bank. The Auction is one of two events in which we seek 100% Club participation, so please plan to attend for at least one half-day shift. We fine those who cannot participate to help reach our fundraising goal from this major fundraiser. We are now taking signups for the various roles that need to be filed on the day of the event, too. Sign up at Thursday’s club meeting or talk to Auction Co-Chair / pP Nancy Kemp or Auction Co-Chair Gary Gustafson. Thanks! We did reach our goal of $50k in donations. Many thanks to the Auction Committee for all their hard work in getting us there!
Our Club Calendar requires a little attention this month. We meet for our Club Speech Contest on the 18th, but the 25th is MOVED to the Radio Auction and April 1st is MOVED to the Area Speech Contest at the Nevada City Elks Club at noon on Wednesday, March 31st. We need to provide a head count to the Elks on the 23rd, so please sign up at this week’s meeting or let me or Donna Smith know you can attend.
Our program this Thursday will be the Club’s Speech Contest. We have five young men and women coming to demonstrate their oratorical skills. This is always an enjoyable program. Thanks to Donna Smith for leading the effort. See you Thursday!
