We had a good meeting last week! Brittany Juergensen of the Sierra Nevada Conservancy provided an update on the Conservancy and its programs to direct funding to efforts to preserve and enhance the economy, society and environment of the Sierra Nevada region. If you want to support the work of the Conservancy, which has provided funding in Nevada County for trail improvements, river cleanups and the like, sign up for a special license plate at www.sierralicenseplate.org.
We also had a brief status report from Rotaractor Sol Henson about his work on our 3H Grant in Uganda. pP Nancy Kemp will be taking on accounting duties for that grant to give some relief to pP Don Fultz. Thank you, Nancy! Sgt. at Arms and pP Kim Stewart announced that the remembrance for past Club Treasurer Noel Carter is Sunday, January 17th at 1 pm at the Grass Valley Elks Lodge. Keep Noel and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
I gave brief report on our efforts to reach the Club’s Fine Goal of $3,000 for the year – as of November 30th we were at $643, so keep in mind our goal of $75 per club member as you remember your birthday and anniversary. Club Service Chair Dixie Redfearn announced the Tahoe City Rotary Club’s annual Rotary Ski Challenge at Alpine Meadows on March 5th. $145 gets you lift tickets for the day, as well as meals and good Rotary camaraderie.
I also reported that the Club Foundation Board reappointed Nicole Dillard and John Woodford to the Board and reelected their officers: President Pete Brost, Treasurer Laurie Powell and Secretary Ellen Davis. Thanks to all of you for your service and thanks to the other candidates who expressed willingness to serve on the Foundation Board.
We recognized new member Derek Poppell as Rotarian of the Month for November for his work on the Wine-Tasting Fundraiser. We also recognized pP Nancy Kemp and honorary member Gayle Denney as Rotarians of the Month for December for their work on the Adopt-a-Family effort and the Salvation Army bell-ringing fundraiser, respectively. The Club will donate 100 points for each of them toward their next Paul Harris Fellowship. Thanks to all of them for their work! Congratulate them when you see them.
Membership Co-chairs Walt Stickel and Austin Farrar are asking each Club member to give them ten business cards. They will provide a set of business cards for our entire Club membership to our 10 new members for the current year. Bring your cards to the meeting!
Our program this Thursday is Craft Talks and we will hear from new members Dr. Don Williams and Donna Smith, Esq. Craft talks always make an interesting program, so don’t miss it! See you for lunch!
