President Michael may well be mumbling... but he certainly wasn't mumbling at the last Rotary meeting! He's vacationing on a cruise and will also be absent for the next club meeting as well as the Board meeting! (wonder what that fine should be?!) Community Service Chair Cathy Wilcox-Barnes ably conducted the meeting, despite the rowdiness of the group. Our speaker, Detective Clint Bates of the Grass Valley Police Department spoke about the Nevada County Task Force on Drugs and educated us on their activities, how the task force operates and the results so far. Seeing the number of raised hands for questions showed that it was one of the more intriguing programs this year.
While getting into the buffet line, pP Fultzee was caught trying to steal the bell from PE Eleanor Kenitzer, who has been entrusted with "Lucy's" well-being until President Michael returns. Fultzee refused to pay a fine because he bought "fine insurance". The feeling among us is strong that fine insurance should not cover bell-stealing, since that is such an egregious act. ("Policies will definitely be altered next year", responded PE Eleanor)
The club's Board meeting will be held on Monday, October 5th, 5:30, at the Nevada City Winery. Remember that members are always invited and can count attendance as a make-up meeting. At this Board meeting, we will be discussing how to spend the $900 generously donated by Bob Breck of KNCO, as well as the Foundation and other club activities. This is a great way to become better acquainted with the workings of Rotary.
Shutterbugs, take note! October 10th is Rotary International's "Day in the Life" Photography Day. Rotarians around the world will be taking photos to demonstrate daily aspects of the way of life that is Rotary. If you have an interest, polish those lenses and grab an image of Rotary's impact in our community on October 10th. Details can be found on the RI website: www.rotary.org.
We're excited that at today's meeting we get to welcome back pP Kim Stewart! She returns from taking some time off from Rotary to be at home with her two little boys AND to start her own business.
Next week's meeting will be a Club Assembly for Committee Meetings. This is an opportunity for each group to review the Visioning findings and decide on their goals and projects for this year. It's also a way for everyone to be able to attend the meeting without having to go out again! Please make sure you are in attendance so that you can be apart of the work of this club!
