The start of a new Rotary Year! Who knows what good works and good fun 2009-10 brings to our Club? We’ll soon find out! We should start with thank-you’s to all who contributed to the life and success of our Club in 2008-09, including President Bob, his Boardmembers, and everyone who contributed to a committee, led an event, made a contribution - financial or otherwise - or otherwise helped us be a successful, vibrant club. Thank you!

Thank you too, to the crew who made possible the great Demotion Party for President Bob at the lovely Toad Hollow estate of the Scobel Family in Nevada City on June 27th. Thanks to Austin for his usual outstanding work on the food and Cathy Wilcox-Barnes and her committee: Ellen Davis, Nicole Dillard, Carolyn Inglis, Nancy Kemp, Walt Stickel (the sound effects man), and Jeff Wenzel. The bocce ball court was blazing and the legend of Bobby Bellhand was a hoot. Our thanks to you all.

Make sure you join us for our first Club meeting of the year on Thursday, July 9th. Nevada County Superior Court Judge Tom Anderson will be on hand to swear in our new Board. We will have new logo pins for all to establish the coming year’s theme ("The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands"), and our Committee Chairs will update you on what’s cooking for the coming year and how you can be involved.

Speaking of being involved – our first service opportunity of the new year is the Children’s Festival, slated for Friday, July 17th in Pioneer Park. Our Club usually moves tables the night before, covers the tables with newsprint the morning of, and cleans up the park after the festival is over. If you’d like to be involved in this heart-warming opportunity to serve the youth of our community, contact pP Nancy Kemp at nhkemp@comcast.net or 470-0677.

We have two district trainings in Reno this month for those of you interested in involvement at the District level or brushing up your Rotary or leadership skills. July 11th is on Youth Services and July 25th is on the Rotary Foundation. If you are interested in the Youth Services event, talk to Youth Services Chair Laura Crookston or Dave Kenitzer; for the Foundation, contact Foundation Chair and pP Bob Buhlis or International Projects Chair Carolyn Inglis. I’m looking forward to a fun and productive year. If you have thoughts for how to make it so, please share them with me, at a meeting, via email at mcolantuono@hotmail.com or by phone at 432-7359. See you Thursday!
