District Conference was a blast! DG
Wyn Spiller and her committees are to be commended
for a job well done – the speakers, especially Dr.
Scott Kellermann and PRIP Cliff Dochterman,
were tremendous, the sessions had variety and were interesting,
and the parties can’t be beat. Gayle Denney
was Music Contest Chair, PP David Kenitzer
shared the Audio-Visual spotlight and Austin Farrar
helped with decorations, the music contest and selling basket
raffle tickets. Julie Miller and her husband
Terry won the Area 2 gift basket (party to be at their house),
PE Michael Colantuono was escorted to wait
in the wings by DGE Janice Gage and is well
prepared to take over on July 1st. I was graciously shown the
door through which I am to exit in six weeks. PDG Dave
Denney was the official observer (somebody had to do
it!). Bobbi Williams and her son Ken
were on hand Sunday to place a rose in remembrance of Ken
Williams. By the way, we were awarded the Presidential
Citation – thanks to the contributions of many
of our club Rotarians.
Since I was unable to attend last weeks meeting, I asked PE
Michael Colantuono to conduct the business portion
of the field trip. This is his report: “We had about 20
members, a lovely picnic lunch catered by the Salvation
Army in the picnic ground which has replaced a pool
that had previously died behind the residential facility, and
a good tour and overview of the Booth Family Resource
Center by Bob & Miriam Keene who,
alas! have orders to move to Bend, Oregon and will be leaving
our Club (and the GV Club for Bob) in June. I did a thought
of the day about inspirational mothers, given that Mother's
Day was immediately before. We made a $100 donation to the Salvation
Army to help defray the cost of lunch.” Thanks, Michael!
I had hear that Miriam and Bob were being transferred to Oregon.
Our loss is their gain! The good news/bad news is that I understand
that the new man will be joining Rotary, but it will be the
Grass Valley club!
This week PE Michael will be sharing the results
of the recent survey for our program. As part of the planning
for this next year and the four years following, he will later
on relate those results with the recently held visioning findings.
Don’t miss this one if you want to know what is happening
in the world of Rotary in Nevada City!
