After a whirlwind of activities – that is Radio
Auction, Rotarians at Work Day, the
GSE Luncheon and our Visioning
project, we are back to our regularly scheduled Thursday lunch
meetings. Last week, our program was presented by Mary
Elizabeth Young who spoke on "Women and Water".
She was hosted by International Avenue Chair Carolyn
Inglis and was introduced by her good friend Robin
Milam. Mary Elizabeth gave us a good insight on clean
water issues in third world countries – a major emphasis
for many Rotary projects.
This week, we are having a field trip to the Booth
Family Center hosted by Miriam Keene.
Along with a lunch and a tour, we will learn about the good
works the Salvation Army does for families
in need of temporary shelter. The Grass Valley address for the
center is 12390
Rough and Ready Highway. We will also be electing
the 2009-10 Board of Directors.
Saturday, May 9th was Visioning Day
for the Nevada City Club. What a successful event that turned
out to be! There were 17 members participating of which 13 will
be on the 2009-10 board. We had the benefit of District 5190’s
Visioning Team led by Past RIVP Jerry Hall,
PDG Vic Slaughter, PDG Steve Snyder,
& 49er Rotarian Yvonne Bartlett on hand
to walk us through the visioning process as we plan the direction
our club should take over the next few years. PE Michael
Colantuono will be summarizing the results of the session
and will present his report at a later date.
District Conference is this weekend –
if you haven’t registered and can possibly attend at least
a part of conference, please do so at once. At this point, we
only have eight registrations, plus two guests – I was
hoping for more, but we’ll have a good time anyway. This
will be our opportunity to honor the great work DG Wyn
Spiller has accomplished this past year and to enjoy
the fellowship that is a significant part of conference. As
mentioned before, Bobbi Williams and her son
Ken will be present on Sunday morning to participate
in the memorial which will include the honoring and remembrance
of our own Ken Williams.
James Arbaugh, President of the Rotary Club
of South County, has invited anyone who won’t be at Conference
to hear Scott Kellerman speak to instead hear
him at their meeting on May 19th, 7:00 am at
the Alta Sierra County Club. James will need reservations to
advise the caterer, so if you plan on attending you may call
him at 272-1266.
