Craft Talks are always interesting and help
us to know each other better. Thanks to George Foster
and Walt Stickel for their presentations last
week. A slide program done by Walt was a first for me. Last
week, PE Michael Colantuono presented his nominees
for the 2009-10 Board of Directors. It is a board that includes
current board members along with some new faces. It promises
to provide the leadership we need to carry us into the future.
We also passed the revised by-laws that IPP Nancy Kemp
updated to bring our club current with RI recommendations. It,
too, is what we need to carry us into the future. Thinking of
Nancy, I’m pleased to report that she is once again at
home and her trip back to Stanford didn’t require her
to be readmitted. Her long recovery is underway, but complete
quiet is necessary. Cards and e-mails are encouraged.
This week, our meeting is moved to Tuesday, March 31
at the NC Elk’s Lodge for a luncheon
meeting and Area Speech Contest. Each of our
five clubs will have their club speech contest winner present;
the winner will represent Area 4 at District Conference
in May. Let’s have good representation to support our
candidate!
The Radio Auction team reports that 142
auction items have been collected totaling $26,180.
Thursday, April 2nd is the deadline for items
to be included in the newspaper special auction insert. If you
miss the deadline, don’t stop following up on your potential
donors – those items will still be included in the auction
and announced on KNCO on the day of the event.
Recently, the Nevada County South Rotary Club
hosted PDG Bob Dorr for a final report on the
Philippines Boat Project. This project was
finished last fall, dedicated in November and is in the final
phase of certification by the Philippine government. The 15
clubs that contributed, including the Nevada City Club, were
each given a plaque to commemorate participation. The plaque
will be available at our April 9th meeting along with more details
about the project. This was another fine example of how Rotary
Makes Dreams Real making me especially proud to be not only
be a Rotarian, but a part of the Nevada City Rotary Club!
