Both young ladies from Bear River High School did a great job at the Speech Contest last week. Thanks to Phil Ruble for once again leading this most important competition for us. The winner will compete against four other Area 4 contestants at the Nevada City Elk’s Lodge next Tuesday, March 31st. You should plan on arriving by 11:45 am to speed through the buffet line so that the contest can begin promptly at 12:15 pm. Next week's meeting is moved to that date, and we will not have a regular meeting on April 2nd. If you don’t attend the contest, please be sure and make-up the meeting by one of the several options available.

March 31st is the close of the year for the Call for Recognition for District Awards. One way you can help is to register for District Conference before March 31st – points are given for each registration by that time. Our club is expected to be awarded the Presidential Citation, which is really a Club Citation. It is based on netting at least one new member, our work in the Avenues of Service, and having a project to support reducing child mortality. You can register on-line through the District Website, by mail, or contact pP David Kenitzer or me to assist you with your registration.

District Assembly is April 4th. Although the deadline for registration has now passed, check with PE Michael Colantuono to see if he can arrange for you to attend. A good club turnout will help make this next year a successful one. There is a reception scheduled from 5 to 7:30 at the Grand Sierra Hotel, Reno, for those arriving on Friday.

Each week more Radio Auction items pour in. The latest count is 127 items with a value of $23,151. Keep up the good work! Items must be turned in by April 2nd to be included in the Radio Auction Circular, and please follow up on those donors that haven’t committed yet.

This week PE Michael Colantuono has arranged for Craft Talks by George Foster and Walt Stickel, always an interesting meeting where we learn more about our fellow Rotarians. Time permitting, we will also see a video prepared to promote the International Conference in Birmingham, England. We will also be voting on the proposed by-laws, so please be sure to attend to make your vote count.

2009 District Assembly: This year's District Assembly has been completely redesigned and promises to be a workshop to help clubs run better. The Assembly is scheduled for April 4th at Grand Sierra Resort in Reno. New members, board members, future leaders, and anyone else interested in Rotary's "behind the scenes" are encouraged to attend. Contact PE Michael Colantuono if you're interested in attending. 2009 District Conference
: The District Conference is the culmination of what the 2,700 Rotarians in 53 clubs within our district accomplish. And this Rotary year, we will all come together on May 15-17 at the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino in Reno to discuss, celebrate, and plan for the future! Early Bird registration and details about the Conference are available at www.rotarydistrict5190.org/districtconferencehome.asp.
Club Visioning: Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 9th from 9am to noon at the Superintendent of Schools office. During this time, the District Visioning Team will lead us through a brainstorm session to help us create a strategic plan. Any member interesting in helping to shape our club's future is encouraged to attend.
