It’s been a busy week!
The e-Waste Project was extremely successful
with the quantity of no longer needed TV’s, monitors,
and other electronic equipment taken to the pick-up locations
in Area 4. Thanks to Cathy Wilcox-Barnes and
PEN Eleanor Kenitzer for taking the afternoon
shift on Sunday at the Nevada City collection point. Our hope
is that we raised at least $5,000 for our first
year challenge by RI President D.K. Lee for finalizing the eradication
of Polio in Africa and Asia.
Ten of our members and guests attended the Area 4 Mixer
last week at the Holiday Inn Express in Grass Valley. It proved
to be not only an opportunity to introduce Rotary to potential
new members, but an opportunity for members of our five clubs
to socialize outside of the more formal area and district events.
I hope this will become an annual event with greater membership
participation!
The District's Nominating Committee has announced the selection
of Alan Cain as our District Governor
for 2011-2012. Alan is a member of the Alturas
Rotary Club and currently serves as Assistant Governor
Area 12. His wife Jeanne is also a member of
the Alturas Club, is a Past President and will be serving as
Assistant Governor in 2009-10. They are a wonderful and dynamic
team! District Governor Nominee Designate Alan and Jeanne will
be more properly introduced in the upcoming March 1st District
Newsletter.
Last week’s program gave us food for thought as the City
of Nevada City, its residents, merchants, Chamber of Commerce,
Downtown Business Association, and other interested parties
consider the future of the physical location of our county seat
and court house. Thanks to PE Michael Colantuono
for bringing Placer County’s Russ Baldo
to share his insights on saving the beautiful Placer County
Court House.
It is a great pleasure for me to have my son Sergeant
Roger Buhlis (Richmond Police Department) and my daughter-in-law
Jaye at our meeting this week. Roger, our guest
speaker, will be presenting "Ethics in Professional Life".
With ethics a priority in Rotary, this is a timely subject.
