We had a tremendous turnout for our first meeting of the year
- let's keep those attendance records up! The program was an
interesting one as we learned about Nevada County's
Got Talent, a program to support the visual arts in
our local schools. Thanks to Cheryl Benso;
John Coulter gave us a new insight into what
members in the community are doing to help our schools and our
young people.
The Radio Auction is coming up and this week
will be our kickoff. The Auction Committee (Carolyn
Inglis, David Kenitzer, Nancy
Kemp, Gary Gustafson, Robin
Milam, and Luke Cummings) have been
hard at work with the planning, mailing and finalizing the details
for another successful event. It is our big one and it takes
the time and energy of each one of us to make it happen. Remember
this is our major scholarship fund raiser for the year. It will
take extra effort in these difficult times, but let's work towards
topping our highest net profit yet. The youth in our county
are counting on us!
Looks like it might be time to remind everyone of the penalties
of having a cell phone ring during a meeting.
Remember the first meeting in July when my new phone rang in
my pocket? Well, my fine was $10. Later in
that same meeting (during the program) someone else's phone
rang and that was a $20 fine. I've learned
to turn my phone to vibrate or off during the meeting; how about
you? John Hazelwood definitely got the message
last week!
The pilot project on phone cell collection
is ending, so bring those phones to the meeting or to my shop
no later than Monday. We will continue to collect them either
for this project or the E-Waste Collection
campaign we are conducting in Area 4 for Polio Plus.
We can still collect monitors, TVs, laptops, flat screens and
ink jet cartridges for no fee. Other items such as CPUs, telephones,
printers, copiers, DVD players, fax machines, VCRs, stereos
and video games require a $5 fee be paid. $2.50 of the fee is
returned to the area.
It's a tightly kept secret, but the word will be out at the
Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner on January
24th who the Vocational Committee and the Chamber have
selected as the Business Person of Year. It's
not too late to make reservations for the dinner through the
Chamber office - be among the first to be in the know!
