After our holiday break, it’s time to get back to the
business at hand in the world of Rotary. I hope each of you
had a memorable and enjoyable holiday season, and I wish you
a Happy New Year. May it be a healthy and prosperous year for
you and your family.
Our E-Waste Collection Day slated for February
22nd is already well underway with quite a collection
of electronic equipment, especially televisions and CRTs. Each
of the five Area 4 Clubs has begun collecting donations which
are being stored in the former Hedman’s warehouse behind
SPD. You may drop your donations off at my shop -- there is
a little bit of floor space left! This project is to raise funds
to help match the $100-million grant from the Bill Gates Foundation
to eradicate Polio in the few remaining countries in Africa
and Asia.
Our cell phone collection is also going well.
An initial shipment will be sent off in a few days to see what
kind of a return we get. Funds received will be used to support
a club youth project.
January is Rotary Awareness Month -- members
Robin Milam and IPP Nancy Kemp
will continue to educate us in our weekly Rotary Minute in support
of the theme. A special emphasis will be placed on the importance
of each of us participating in The Rotary Foundation,
no matter how large or small.
Hosted by Cheryl Benso, “Nevada
County’s Got Talent” is the title of the
presentation to be given at this week’s meeting by John
Coulter. Since we already know that we in Nevada County
have some of the most gifted people in the world, I’m
looking forward to hearing about a new insight into the subject,
so let’s have a good turn-out for this first meeting of
2009!
