Thanksgiving 2008 has come and gone, and I
hope your celebration was truly one of remembrance, joy and
thanksgiving.
There were many favorable comments about the program after
our last meeting when Tom Coleman and 49er
pP John Paul presented opposing sides of the Business
Improvement District which funds the Nevada City Downtown Association.
Tom’s main point was an objection to a required fee, which
he referred to as a tax. John emphasized the accomplishments
achieved by the NCDA as a result of the funds collected from
the members of the district. Under the excellent management
of PE Michael Colantuono, the program ran smoothly
to include a Q&A period that could have gone well past our
time constraints. Thanks to all three Rotarians for a well-balanced,
informative program.
Wearing her hat as Vocational Chair (she has many hats!) Nicole
Dillard is asking for nominations for the Business
Person of the Year Award. Previous recipients include
Alan Rogers and Tom Coleman,
although the award has been presented to a number of business
men and woman who are not Rotarians. This award is to be presented
at the Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner on January 24th. Recommendations
are due by December 18.
Our annual Christmas Dinner is scheduled for
December 4th beginning at 6 pm at the National
Hotel in place of our regular luncheon meeting. The evening
promises to be an outstanding dinner to include fellowship and
entertainment. If you haven’t made your reservation, you
may contact Cathy Wilcox-Barnes or Jeff
Wenzel to see if the hotel can accommodate you.
The schedule is complete for the Christmas Salvation
Army bell-ringing project. Thanks to all who signed
up. The Grass Valley Club is trying extra hard to beat us this
year, but we won’t let that happen, will we? Miriam
Keene will bring the collection pot to each of our
regular meetings in December. Your contributions made at that
time will count towards the Nevada City totals.
We resume our regular meeting schedule on December
11 for two weeks and then will be dark for the remainder
of the year. See you Thursday night!
