DG Wyn Spiller's visit this past week is one
the high points of our Rotary years so far. Her inspirational
remarks are a shot in the arm that will encourage us to work
even harder for Rotary, not only locally, but internationally.
After listening to DG Wyn share her concerns,
experiences and passion, how can we not be reenergized to move
forward with our goals and accomplish even more? Nevada City
Rotarians showed their support with a large attendance for this
annual Governor's visit, and your Board of Directors participated
100% at the pre-meeting, representing our club in an exemplary
fashion. Hurray for us!
Welcome new member George Foster who was sponsored
by George Rebane and inducted by DG
Wyn during her visit. Congratulations to pP
David Kenitzer for not only beinig promoted to Vice
President by his employer, but being chosen as Quiet
Rotarian for 2008. His contributions to Rotary at all
levels are significant; just wait and see how much more he will
contribute over the next years. We are fortunate to have David
as a member our club! Congratulations also, to Joe Tomkiewicz
and John Taylor for being selected Rotarians
of the Month for their work on our Fair Booth Fund
Raiser. Contributions have made to TRF in their
names towards Paul Harris awards.
Our guest speaker this week is PDG Chuck Elizondo
whose presentation will be "Raising Dairy Goats in Uganda"
(hosted by PDG Dave Denney). This is a subject
close to the hearts of Area 4 Rotarians, especially in light
of the 3-H Grant recently awarded through the
efforts of pP Don Fultz. You won't want to
miss this one! Also at this meeting, Vocational Director Nicole
Dillard will announce the 2008 recipient of the Vocational
Award.
Next week is the Area 4 Foundation Dinner
at Miners Foundry beginning at 6 p.m. and hosted by the Nevada
City Rotary Club. Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Joe Serra,
will be talking about his work with polio victims in Africa.
With the planning of pP Nancy Kemp and pP
Ellen Davis, the evening is expected to most enjoyable
where 14 Nevada City Rotarians will
receive Paul Harris awards. Several of our
members will receive major recognition in addition to their
PHF awards.
And lastly, don't forget to bring in those old cell phones
for our recycle project.
