A big thank you to IPP Nancy Kemp and pP David Kenitzer for their refresher course on The Rotary Foundation (TRF) at last week’s meeting. As we prepare to host the Foundation Dinner, our having a clear understanding of what TRF is all about makes us better prepared to get the most out of the program.

Several members will be recognized for their Paul Harris contributions at the annual dinner. Although it is too late for RI recognition in time for the dinner for those who achieve a foundation contribution of $1,000, it is not too late for acknowledgement at the dinner as long as either Foundation Dinner Chair / IPP Nancy or Foundation Recording Secretary Shirl Mendonca is made aware of the donation. PDG Dr. Joe Serra, an orthopedic surgeon who has dedicated his Rotary service to Polio, will be our guest speaker. Let’s make Nevada City Rotary look good on November 6 with a huge turnout!

Some dates to mark on your calendars: DG Wyn Spiller will be making her formal visit next week – please be there! Club Service Director Cathy Wilcox-Barnes has announced that the Christmas Party will be held at the National Hotel on Thursday evening, December 4. Vocational Service Director Nicole Dillard is seeking nominees for the Vocational Service Award – give her a call for details and the recommendation form (the deadline is the 23rd). The award will be presented on October 30. A family event has been changed from an Oktoberfest to a possible family Christmas party. Santa will be contacted to see if he can arrange a surprise visit. Members with small children will be contacted to schedule an appropriate time.

Austin Farrar announced at the last meeting a pilot program to collect old cell phones to raise funds for yet an unidentified benefit. In most cases, you can remove the memory chip to secure your privacy. Check your instruction book or go online for help. Bring your phones to the next several meetings and when we have a full box, Austin will ship them off and report the results.

This week, join us for "Seven Hills Middle School Update" to be presented by Joe Lomov. pP Terry Boyer is the host.

District Governor Visit: Next week, DG Wyn Spiller will be visiting our club to discuss her vision for the district. Please support President Buhlis, so don't miss next week!
Foundation Dinner: The Foundation Dinner is November 6th at the Miners Foundry. Social hour starts at 6:00, and the cost will be around $30 per person. Since Polio Eradication is one of the main goals for the Foundation this year, Dr Joe Serra will be talking about his work with polio victims in Africa.
