Now that our technical difficulties have been overcome, it’s
time to do some catch up. Two weeks ago, we were treated to
a presentation from Hannah Baker, president
of Nevada Union’s Interact Club and District 5190’s
Interact Coordinator. Hannah shared with us the projects and
activities conducted both locally and district wide. Last week
was our tour of Loma Rica Ranch with Nell
Scannon, VP of Outreach and Communication, giving us
an overview of the future and dreams for the ranch (including
a scrumptious strawberry shortcake dessert!). Thanks to Julie
Miller and Robin Milam for these two
informative and enjoyable programs.
This week, we have another field trip chosen by vote of the
NC Rotarians who were at the Loma Rica Ranch last week. This
one is at the Fairgrounds, where we will attend
an AG Day lunch and program hosted by the Grass
Valley Rotary Club. Jack Parnell,
who is in the area to announce at the Draft Horse Classic,
will give the main address. Details were sent in a flash bulletin
released earlier this week. This event will begin promptly at
12 Noon.
February 22 has been set for our District
4 Polio Plus Electronic Equipment Collection Day. Our
goal is to raise $15,000 on behalf of our area
clubs within three years (or sooner!) to meet the request of
International President D.K. Lee to help eradicate
polio in the four remaining counties where it exists. A date
will announced soon for a "mini" collection day so
that members can bring equipment that is to be discarded. This
equipment will be stored until the big collection date, which
will be in four locations in western Nevada County.
Save those old cell phones, too! Allan Rogers
obtained information on how funds can be raised by shipping
those old phones to a collection center. Austin Farrar
is chairing the project and will keep you posted as details
are finalized.
Here’s another save the date: Sunday afternoon, October
26, has been set for a family October Fest
at a location to be determined. It will be an afternoon of fellowship,
games and food for the whole family. Stay tuned for details.
