Nearly 20 Rotarians, family members and friends
were at Miner's Trail with shovels, rakes and
wheelbarrows on our special workday. Trees were trimmed, weeds
were whacked and raked, and the trail got a fresh layer of gravel.
Thanks to everyone who pitched in, especially David
Kenitzer and Gary Gustafson for organizing
this community service project!
Thanks also to Gordon Mills, our speaker last
week, who brought us up to date on aviation in Nevada County
– a program arranged by George Rebane.
It was one of those presentations that would have held our interest
long beyond the half hour allotted. Thanks, George!
In the Rotario last week, it was reported that Area 4 will
be have an electronic equipment collection day
to raise funds for Polio Plus. It looks like
it will be held in February. However, we’ll
have several "mini" collection days before that. The
purpose is to raise $15,000 within three years
on behalf of our area clubs, which has been requested by RI
President D.K. Lee. Please hang on to electronic equipment
that you are planning to discard.
pP Fultzee has reported that the first $500
of our 3-H Grant has been wired to Uganda.
Larger sums will be wired later, but this transfer is in part
a test to ensure the process for transferring funds is working
properly. In other news, San Francisco Rotary Club
will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in November with RI
President Lee as the principal speaker. If you are interested
in attending, let me know and I will give you the details. President
Lee has also suggested making plans now to attend the 2009
RI Convention in Birmingham, England.
See the current issue of the The Rotarian for more
information.
This week’s program should be another interesting one.
Our speaker is Hannah Baker (President
of the Nevada Union Interact Club and District
5190’s Interact Representative) hosted
by Julie Miller. See you on Thursday.
In the meantime, show me your pin!
