June is Rotary Fellowship Month, and we can
all enjoy a little fellowship next Friday, June 13th
at a River Cats game. Our meeting of June 12th
has been moved to this offsite location. We meet the bus at
the Plaza Parking lot in Nevada City (Nevada and Sacramento
streets – across the street from Deer Creek Inn) at 4:00.
Our club is subsidizing the bus, so all you need to pay for
are your admission tickets and food.
We can also enjoy fellowship together by working on our 3-H
Grant to Uganda for water and animal husbandry. This
is an exceptional honor for our club to have been selected;
now the work begins. For several weeks now, pP Don Fultz
has been soliciting funds since the local clubs need to contribute
a small percentage of the total grant. Please contribute if
you can.
We also need an individual in our club to do the accounting
for the effort. The grant contains a detailed budget of proposed
expenditures. Keeping track of planned and actual expenses will
be key to the success of the work. And we will also need individuals
to travel to Uganda to help with the actual work itself. Dr.
Scott Kellermann attended our meeting last Thursday
and gave us a quick summary of the work that has been accomplished
for the Batwa Pygmies at the Bwindi Health
Clinic in Uganda, since the first days of IVs hanging from tree
branches. The successes of significantly reducing malaria cases
and infants born with HIV are very impressive. We are fortunate
that we can continue to improve the lives of these wonderful
people.
Part of the Uganda effort includes sending Hydrologist
Sol Henson to Uganda to continue his work with water
surveys and planning for providing clean water and latrines
to the Batwa. Sol is a Charter Member of our local Rotaract
club, and the club is raising money for his travel
to and living expenses in Uganda. If you cannot attend the fund
raising Champagne Brunch at 10:30 am this Sunday,
June 8th at the Odd Fellows Hall, you can mail contributions
to the Rotaract Treasurer, 578 Sutton Way, PMB 202, Grass Valley,
95945.
We are meeting at our usual time and place this coming Thursday.
See you there!
