This week, we have the honor of hosting our District
Governor Vic Slaughter, his wife Kathie
and Assistant Governor Pamela Yazell at our
club meeting. Vic has been in our area since Sunday evening,
where he presented the official charter to our newly formed
Rotaract Club. He’s an excellent speaker,
so don’t miss his address. We also want to know why he
was nicknamed “Ding-A-Ling” when
he visited the Loyalton meeting.
And WOW the Rotaract Ball! David
did a superb job of emceeing the fabulously fun evening; there
were about 120 people in attendance and the program had just
the right amount of Rotary formality and Rotaractor fun.
After our meeting last week, David had very skillfully stolen
my bell [editor's
note: this article is an editorial; the ROTARIO staff remains
neutral on who actually stole the bell], and I was dejected
that I’d have to use my "tinkerbell" to preside
at our meeting with Governor Vic, but at the Ball I learned
that it was part of a larger plot. ALL the president’s
bells had been stolen to be rolled out together on a big cart.
After we got our bells back Eleanor cradled
David’s darling son Aeden, and I cradled my bell as did
all the other presidents. We owe our thanks to David for orchestrating
an exceptional Ball, for being the liaison between the Area
4 Rotary clubs and the Rotaract club and for being instrumental
in the creation of this club of young people. His contribution
has been phenomenal!
This weekend is our Minden Rotary Club Interclub Exchange
beginning on Friday, October 26th with a wine
tasting at the Nevada City Winery. And in case you weren’t
aware, this Friday is also Ellen Davis’
birthday; she’ll be pouring the wine at our tasting. Please
plan to attend one of the exchange events that our Club Service
Chair Cathy Wilcox-Barnes has organized with
the Minden Club – wine tasting, dinner, Off Broadstreet,
biking. More about this at our meeting Thursday.
