Only 16 days until Rotary Year 2007-08!
For those of you in attendance at last week's meeting, you
got a "sneak peek" of 2007-08. My special thanks to
PE Nancy Kemp for stepping in for me last week and running the
meeting.
However...
As I said in last week's column, I entrusted The Bell
into her custody. I have faithfully guarded it for 8+ straight
months (unlike many of the other current area presidents).
So I think you'll understand my surprise when I received an
email from PE Nancy on Friday evening saying:
I took the bell out and put it on the table and before
the meeting started it was gone, so I had to pound your gavel
on the raffle ticket container. George [Rebane] took a picture
documenting being a president who lost the bell before the actual
'term'... So all in all - an adventure. I did hang on to your
gavel though.
Unfortunately, I think the pressure got to her. She's already
told me she won't be at today's meeting. Could it be that she
has a prior engagement? Or is she missing the meeting out of
embarrassment and/or shame that she broke the streak?
