Although my presidential "metal" has been tested
several times over the past three months (during a handful
of projects, many board meetings, and all of the weekly
meetings), this week's District Governor Visit
is probably the most nerve-racking of them all...
Believe it or not, the tradition of each new District Governor
is to visit all 51 clubs in our district, from
Alturas, California to Ely, Nevada and everywhere in-between
(any volunteers?!). This annual visit is to make sure
that the clubs are on the right track, as well as to offer any
assistance that the District and/or he personally can give.
DG Bob Dorr has been traveling virtually non-stop
since July 18. Luckily, his visits end within
the next couple of weeks, so he and his wife Barbara
might finally get some rest (but that's probably not likely
until sometime after June 30, 2007!).
Before today's meeting, DG Bob will meet
with the Club's Board of Directors for a "State
of the Club" report. Each of the Directors will report
on their Avenues of Service, as well as on the many service
projects the Club accomplishes each year (so if they have
a glazed look in their eyes, you'll know why). Knowing
he's a military man, I have been practicing my salutes in the
mirror all week (in this case, practice does not
make perfect). Nonetheless, preparing for this meeting
has been a real eye-opening exercise. As Rotarians, we don't
like to "toot our own horn." But the list of service
projects that was compiled is quite staggering, especially for
a club our size. I hope to share this with all of you in the
near future. It makes me proud to be a Rotarian.
Speaking of being proud to be a Rotarian, I am told that DG
Bob gives a very thought-provoking and inspiring presentation.
But I don't want to steal any of his thunder, so be sure you
attend today's meeting to hear it for yourself!
