Please note that today's meeting has moved!
Rather than meeting at the National Hotel at 12:15pm, we will
be meeting at the Nevada County Fairgrounds
at 5:30pm for our annual Fair Booth Picnic.
The Fair Booth Picnic is an event I personally
look forward to every year. There are only a couple of times
per year that NC Rotarians and our families have the chance
to get together for the sole purpose of fellowship. I hope everyone
will be able to attend.
At Fair Booth Chairman Ben Barretta's suggestion
(notice the "for life" has been removed from Ben's
title), rather than the regular fair booth menu, this year's
picnic will be catered. We all know our Pulled Pork
and BBQ Beef Sandwiches are wonderful,
but we thought you might need a change. Besides, all of us will
be working at the Fair Booth next week, so
we'll get plenty of chances to sample the sandwiches... right?!
Speaking of working, Ben will be passing around the Fair
Booth Sign-Up Sheet during the picnic. Overall, everyone
has done a great job of stepping up early to volunteer. However,
we still need to fill in a few remaining holes in the shifts.
Please take a look at the latest
schedule and let Ben know if you can help.
Last but not least, the Rotary Ore Cart Classic Soccer
Tournament is coming up this weekend.
Organizers are expecting 48 teams will be competing
with about 900 boys & girls aged 19 and
under from all over Northern California. In order for the tournament
to be completed in one weekend, games will be played concurrently
on at least 6 soccer fields in our area (Bear
River High School, Lyman Gilmore Middle School, Ready Springs
Elementary School, Mautino Park, and two at Sierra College).
Since we are helping to sponsor this event, our club (in particular
John Woodford) not only took the lead in laying
out, printing, and selling the ads in the program,
but we will also help out as field marshalls.
We are still looking for volunteers to work one of three 4-hour
shifts (Saturday: 7:30am - 11:30am, 11:30am - 2:30pm or Sunday:
7:30 - 11:30am). No knowledge of soccer is necessary! Mostly,
you would check the players for ID cards, proper attire, jewelry,
etc. If you're interested in helping out (as well as watching
a little bit of soccer), please let John Woodford
know.
In Service Above Self,
Prez David "Kidd" Kenitzer
