Will
The Kidd be able to hang onto his bell any better
than Prez Fultzee? Only time will tell... |
|
A few weeks ago as the Rotary year was coming to a close, I
realized that Past President Fultzee (yes,
Don, you really are a past president) had some big
shoes to fill (some would say "clown-sized").
Just look at the club's accomplishments during his presidency:
-
Raised $40,000 between three fundraisers
-
Donated $25,000 (more than $400 per member)
to The Rotary Foundation
-
Helped to create two Rotary newspaper inserts
-
Formed The Nevada City Rotary Foundation
-
Awarded $15,000 in Scholarships to local
youth
-
Earned the RI Presidential Citation
-
Won Six Awards at the District Conference,
including Club of Excellence
So rather than try to fill the King’s jewel-encrusted
boots, I decided to wear my own shoes (besides, his boots
kept giving me blisters).
The first change should be fairly obvious. With a new Rotary
year upon us, I felt it appropriate to put together a new design
for the Rotario to help symbolize the change
in style. During today’s meeting, you’ll no doubt
notice other modifications to “business as usual”,
from the room setup to the tone of the meeting. And in upcoming
weeks, look for further transformations, including a new website
design similar to the Rotario.
With all of these ch-ch-ch-changes, I welcome any
and all of your comments, ideas, and criticisms. But please,
don’t be too harsh with your critiques. Otherwise, I’ll
just quote another past president (Ben Barretta):
“If you don’t like how the club is being run, just
wait until next year when another president takes over!”
During today's club assembly, my objective is to launch the
2006-07 Rotary year properly. I don't want to give anything
away (I want people to show up afterall), but I'll
be introducing your new board members, my goals for the year,
as well as the new RI theme. Have I piqued your interest? If
not, at least come see a few more local students awarded scholarships...
In Service,
David "Kidd" Kenitzer

Annual Dues: Invoices were mailed to all NC Rotarians for
our annual membership dues. If you did not receive yours, please
let Treasurer Ellen Davis know as soon as possible.
Baby Stewart: Kim Stewart was released
from the hospital on Sunday. She and Mike immediately drove down
to hold Baby Branden. Although he is still at
Mercy San Juan, he is doing much better. He's still having a little
bit of difficulty breathing, but the doctors have changed the
oxygen tubes and have lowered the percentage of O2 (both of which
are signs that's he's getting better). In fact, the only reason
he's still at Mercy San Juan is because he has an infection that
is being treated via IV. As a precaution, he'll be down there
until the treatment is complete, which should be about a week.
Please keep the whole family in your thoughts and prayers...
Children's Festival: The Children's Festival is set for
Saturday, July 22. If you'd like to volunteer
to setup, tear-down, or work at the event, please let PE
Nancy Kemp know.
Fair Booth: The BBQ Sandwich Booth at
the Nevada County Fair needs to be staffed from
Wednesday, August 9 until Sunday, August
13. Every NC Rotarian is encouraged to participate in
the club's first fundraiser of the Rotary year, so be sure to
mark your calendars now!
Party Hearty: This year's Party Hearty with
Jimmi Accardi will be on November 10
at the Miners Foundry from 7:30-11:30pm. If you
would like to be on the planning committee for this event, please
contact Laurie Powell.
