The Crown's Corner

It seems as if it has been a long time since our last regular meeting. I hope you all can find your way to The National. Between the snow days, the Radio Auction, the Music Contest and the Area Speech Contest, our club's attendance has fallen well below the year's average. I'd like to ask each of you to help me bring this average back up in the waning weeks of my reign. Our club is just a lot more fun when you are all here.

About a dozen of our members were at last week's District Assembly in Reno. It was a great meeting, featuring talks by Rotary's founder, Paul Harris, and incoming Rotary Vice-President Jerry Hall from Reno. Ask any of those attending about Paul's talk -- it was inspiring.

Those in attendance included "Kidd" Kenitzer, Eleanor Kenitzer, Cathy Wilcox-Barnes, Nancy Kemp, Ellen Davis, Bonnie Murphey, Dave Denney, Brent Daggett, Nicole Oros, Ed Townsend, and Eric Trygg. This is the most club representation I remember at any recent district conference.

The next big push is to get an even better turnout for District Conference on May 5-7. I am reading a book about the real Rain Man, who Dustin Hoffman played in his Oscar winning role a few years ago. The Rain Man, Kim Peck, will be one of the featured speakers. Kim, who is termed a "megasavant" is even more gifted and inspiring than the screen version. His message? "Recognize and Respect differences in others."

Of course, I am hoping that our club will receive its share of awards this year. Club Secretary Kim Stewart has put together an outstanding presentation about our various club projects. We have achieved a lot this year in all Avenues of Service. I will be passing copies of Kim's handiwork around at our meeting. Take a good look at what we have done as a Rotary Team.

I am asking the "Kidd" to repeat the job he did in getting the record turnout to the Assembly. Let's end the year with a bang!!!

  Club News

New Member Proposed: Carolyn Inglis (Classification: International Shipping) has been proposed as a new member to our club. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact John Burke or Prez Fultzee.
Message From DG Dave: If you could save $55.00, would you jump at the opportunity? The good news is you can still save $55.00 by registering for the District Conference before April 15. When you're paying your taxes (or if you’re lucky, getting a refund), write a check for the conference registration. Don’t forget the rare opportunity of meeting RI President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar on Thursday night for dinner -- just add another $50.00.
District Conference: The District Conference is coming! Our district's annual extravaganza will be held May 5-7 at John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks, NV. A sign-up sheet will be passed around at today's meeting. Also if you're interested in volunteering to be a Sergeant-At-Arms, 2-1/2 hour slots are available throughout the weekend. Please let "Kidd" Kenitzer know!
Radio Auction Items: Two weeks ago, we sold 21 out of 31 items for an additional $1,041. We added two late items, so please see the remaining 12 items in the next section. We'll bid on them at today's meeting.
Baja Trip: We are organizing a trip to San Jose Los Cabos, Mexico on April 28-30 to visit our "brother club" and to do a service project at the Paolo Escopeda School. If you are interested in going, please contact Stacy Hart or John & Sandra Hensley.
Area Rotary Tab: The annual Rotary tab that promotes the five area clubs will be inserted in The Union on May 18. Ads are available to area Rotarians only and determine how many pages the tab will be. The deadline for ads is April 21. For more info, please contact Jim Moss at The Union.

The Crown's Corner The following Radio Auction items did not receive any bids. The Auction Committe will take the highest bidder for each item at each meeting. Next week, only items that did not have bids will be left on the list.
