  The Crown's Corner

It is just 60 days until our District Assembly in Reno, where the incoming Board and officers will get their marching orders for 2006-07. I would also like to encourage newer members to attend the session at the Reno Hilton on April 9th. Your board has voted to cover the registration costs for any club member attending.

The calendar reminds me that we are more than half-way through another Rotary year. We have made good progress on the goals set by the board, as well as some new ideas that have cropped up during during the year. For example, JoAnne Conley and Bonnie Murphey have taken on the job of gathering all the flags from other Rotary clubs our members have visited and mounting them for a display for our meetings. Meanwhile, George Rebane has put forth the idea of having a community-wide "Shred-a-Thon" to combat identity theft in our area. Phil Ruble and the Pokerettes helped put together a massive effort to help the victims of Katrina. These are just three examples that come to my mind as I write this message.

From my perch on the Throne, I see hundreds (if not thousands) of volunteer hours being spent by our club members to help make our club a vital part of our community. I never knew how much time many of you invested until this year.

On that note, I want to mention that Stacie Hart was named December Rotarian of the Month by the Board for her work on our annual Christmas Party. The Board voted another hardworking member for the month of January -- I will announce that at today's meeting. Both will have $200 credited to their Paul Harris account. A reminder that the majority of the stiff fines this year are coming back to the membership.

Flag Display: The club has a new display for the many flags / banners that members have brought back from Rotary clubs all over the world. Since we haven't had anything to display them on, they seem to be scattered and stored hither and yon. If you have any around, please bring them to the meetings and give them to JoAnne Conley. She is attaching them to the new display and we will then have an unveiling at a meeting in the future.
9th Annual Radio Auction:
This year's Radio Auction is coming up on March 25 and will be broadcast over KNCO 830AM from 9:00am until 2:00pm. Radio ads began on Monday, so be sure to get your Gold Level Donations of $250 or more back to the Radio Auction Committee as soon as possible to maximize the number of ads your donors are in. To make submitting items easier for the members, the Committee has setup a fax line: (530) 687-9717. Once you have the "Item Donation Form" filled out, you can either fax it or bring it to the regular club meetings. The Radio Auction Committee is also excited about the tabloid-sized circular that will be inserted into The Union on March 20. This will not only list all of the items of $100 or higher, but will also include stories and pictures about our club's service in the community.
